Exquisite, Genuine Persian Rug Needs a Good Home

Medallion Heriz Persian Rug, 9’ x 12’
(Iranian northern frontier) Excellent Condition

This is the real handmade deal from the northern Iranian mountains, not an inferior knockoff from India, Pakistan, or Afghanistan.  Shipped recently from the US.
Heriz rugs are extremely durable, thick, tough, hard-wearing and last generations. The coarser construction of this rug, about 100 kpsi, is on the high end grade of Heriz quality. The knots on this piece are extremely tight and regular.

Such rugs age well and become more beautiful with age. Part of the reason for the toughness of Heriz carpets is that Mount Sabalan sits on a major deposit of copper. Traces of copper in water the sheep drink produces higher quality, more resilient wool than elsewhere.

Weaves patterns of Heriz are geometric and bold with a large dominating medallion, a traditional  design in brightly contrasting colors of crimson, rich blues, golds and creams, woven from memory.

In 1983 when the 30 year old rug was purchased in Minnesota, it was authenticated and appraised by Mr. Orly Thornsjo, a well known international oriental rug dealer. His authentication in the original handwritten letter will be provided upon purchase, or viewable upon a serious offer.

Generally, Heriz are considered reasonable in price for the high quality.  Political instability in the last 50 years of the region has driven supply way down, making authentic Persian rugs more rare and valuable. Today, at 60 years old and in excellent condition, the value of mid-20th century Heriz rugs of this quality range from $15,000 to $35,000. Best offers will be considered.

Proceeds will go towards the non-profit Viva La Raw Project for education of plant-based nutrition, specifically for construction of a teaching facility at La Joya del Sol and supporting classes in the field.
